About The Position

As a Special Education Teacher, you will have the opportunity to change lives through education as you connect and work one-on-one with students needing special support to understand both their capabilities and disabilities as you develop and apply personalized learning approaches and programs that support their growth, progress, and success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • A current special education certification with proper endorsement(s) according to state and federal standards.
  • Valid SEI Endorsement/Certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment is required in AZ only.
  • Must pass a criminal history background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Two plus years SPED Teaching experience and proven proficiency and experience in the subject of focus and specialty area of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Create a classroom environment that cultivates learning, engages the students' interests, and allows them to perform at their very best.
  • Utilize direct instruction techniques to guide students through a variety of activities designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth needed for primary school success.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location and the needs and capabilities of the individuals involved.
  • Assess student accomplishments regularly and provide progress reports as required.
  • Recognize and evaluate learning and other disabilities of students regularly; seek the assistance or referral of district specialists as required.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Explore individual needs and provide side-by-side support to discover how each student best learns and develop personalized solutions to each student’s learning style and abilities.
  • Master the proven curriculum, implement the philosophy of education, and guide the learning process and students toward the achievement of curriculum goals.
  • Evaluate each student’s learning capabilities and celebrate student accomplishments.
  • Encourage students to uphold values and model mature behavior and good character in the classroom, on the school campus, and throughout their lives.
  • Create positive, powerful energy that fuels school spirit.

  • Perform duties that may include frequent walking, standing, stooping, lifting up to approximately 25 pounds and occasional lifting of equipment and/or materials weighing up to approximately 40 pounds.
  • Stand or sit for extended periods of time; see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone; and understand and follow oral and written instructions.
