About The Position

Nexus Family Healing-Woodbourne Campus is looking to hire a Special Education Teacher. As a Special Education Teacher, you will partner with general education teachers, families, and support staff to deliver individualized instruction, lead IEP development and implementation, and empower students to achieve college and career readiness. Woodbourne Campus is located on a historic site in the heart of Baltimore, Maryland, that has been helping kids in need for over 200 years, originally as an orphanage in the early 1800s. In 2012, Nexus Family Healing affiliated with location, bringing our innovative trauma-informed practices to the youth of Baltimore. Requirements

  • Bachelors’ degree
  • Maintain and hold Valid State teaching licensure/certification is required or must be eligible for a State educator certificate in specific content area for secondary teachers. 1-8, 6-dult or K-12
  • Middle School teachers must hold or be eligible to hold an appropriate State certification in elementary education and/or grades 1-8 in special education if teaching special education students.
  • Must have a bachelor’s degree and hold or be eligible for a State educator certificate. (Social Studies 7-12, History 7-12)
  • Valid driver’s license required. Must meet state regulating agency and Home Office driving requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred in specific content area such as Math or Math Education and teaching experience are preferred.
  • Calculus at the AP level strongly preferred, content area social studies, degree in history or English degree.

Responsibilities

  • Provide specialized instruction and instructional support to students with disabilities in both inclusive co-teaching and self-contained classroom settings.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to plan, deliver, and assess evidence-based instruction that supports student success.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs, including conducting evaluations, interpreting assessment data, and maintaining compliance with special education requirements.
  • Serve as a student case manager by coordinating IEP meetings, communicating student progress with families, and partnering with educators and support staff to meet individual student needs.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret student performance data and formal/informal assessments to guide instruction and improve student outcomes.
  • Adapt curriculum, instructional materials, accommodations, and modifications to support access to the general education curriculum and achievement of IEP goals.
  • Ensure special education compliance by managing IEP timelines, evaluations, and required documentation.
  • Plan and deliver individualized instruction, coordinate paraeducator support, and engage in ongoing professional development to strengthen instructional practices and student success.
  • Create and maintain a positive, inclusive classroom environment that supports student learning, engagement, and appropriate behavior.
  • Plan and deliver well-prepared, goal-oriented instruction aligned to curriculum standards and individual student needs.
  • Supervise and direct paraeducators, instructional assistants, behavioral aides, and volunteers to effectively support student success.
  • Establish clear learning objectives and classroom expectations while promoting district educational goals and academic achievement.
  • Monitor and assess student academic progress, using data to measure growth and provide required progress reports.
  • Maintain accurate student records, documentation, and reports in compliance with legal, district, and administrative requirements.
  • Implement classroom procedures and behavior expectations that foster a safe, structured, and productive learning environment.
  • Deliver instruction aligned to curriculum goals, establishing and communicating clear learning objectives to support student achievement.
  • Collaborates with administrators, other teachers, school assistants, related service providers, families, and others as necessary.
  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Remains current on and adherent to all company policies, assigned trainings and/or certification requirements.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
  • Incorporates modifications, accommodations, Universal Design for Learning, and differentiation to address diverse learning needs in lesson planning and content delivery.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom; develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and maintains classroom order.
  • Strives to implement by instruction and action the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals.
