About The Position

Discovery Schools in Farmington is hiring a Special Education Teacher. The starting pay is $42,000–$48,000, with bonuses. A minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required, and assistance is provided to obtain teaching certification in Missouri. Mild/Moderate Cross Categorical teaching certification is preferred, or the candidate must be able to obtain it. The teacher designs instruction to help students access state learning standards and meet their IEP, Behavior Intervention Plan, and transition goals. The role includes managing the classroom environment and supporting adults, helping teams respond to student crises, monitoring related services, maintaining student progress records, communicating with parents, and preparing documentation for IEP meetings.

Requirements

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree.
Mild/Moderate Cross Categorical teaching certification, or ability to obtain it.
Ability to obtain teaching certification in the State of Missouri; assistance is provided.

Responsibilities

Design instructional opportunities that enable students to access state learning standards and achieve IEP, Behavior Intervention Plan, and transition goals.
Manage the classroom environment and the adults assigned to support classroom needs.
Lead or assist teams supporting a student in crisis by implementing Safe Crisis Management and other crisis management strategies.
Monitor students receiving related services, including Speech, Occupational Therapy, and Counseling, weekly.
Accept direction and adhere to policies and procedures.
Maintain ongoing progress records for assigned students and communicate regularly with parents.
Prepare for IEP meetings by submitting drafted documents according to the supervisor’s timeline.
Demonstrate tact, resourcefulness, patience, dedication, and calm, effective responses in high-emotion situations.
