About The Position

This position will meet the educational needs of students with significant needs. Provide a high degree of structure and management in order to provide appropriate supports and accomplish modified academic goals. Familiarity with modifying academics while meeting standards, ability to modify curriculum, and instruction are required in order to assist students with skill mastery. Experience with assistive technology and supporting students with severe physical disabilities is preferred. Primary provider of much, if not all, academic subjects with support from developmental level teachers. Support student integration into mainstream as much as possible and according to the student's IEP. Support students with acquisition of adaptive skills including; independence, life skills, social skills, and community awareness. Develop and promote good community relations among stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • English fluency will be determined through the interview process and licensure.
  • Valid Colorado Driver's License.
  • Valid Colorado Teaching License with a Special Education Generalist endorsement.
  • Valid Colorado Teaching License with Elementary Education endorsement through passing CO PLACE or CO PRAXIS, or CDE approved out of state content exam .
  • Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability in response to change.
  • Possesses computer and technology skills.
  • Effectively works with students from diverse backgrounds and abilities.
  • Collaborates well with supervisors and co-workers.
  • Capable of understanding and following both complex oral and written instructions.
  • Able to perform duties independently with minimal supervision.
  • Communicates effectively with the School District community.
  • Skilled in analysis, instruction, negotiation, coordination, communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal interactions.
  • Proficient in comparing, computing, synthesizing, and evaluating information.
  • Meets attendance standards and works the necessary hours to fulfill essential responsibilities.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Upholds a generally positive attitude.
  • Complies with all District policies and procedures.
  • Adheres to federal and state laws, regulations, and policies.

Responsibilities

  • Create a positive learning environment and effective management structures to purposefully promote and foster effective teaching, learning, and student achievement.
  • Create an instructional learning environment that establishes routines and provides for student engagement through questioning, speculation, and originality.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines to ensure team understanding of student strengths and needs, through evaluation, educational program planning, and service delivery.
  • Promote a learning environment respecting the dignity of the child that is perceived by students as fair and consistent.
  • Evaluate the student's ability and formulates the student's profile through a variety of functional, behavioral, and standardized assessments, skilled observation, checklists, histories, and interviews.
  • Incorporate additional learning opportunities when appropriate.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings to review evaluation results, integrate findings with other disciplines, offer recommendations, and develop individual education plans and intervention plans to achieve IEP goals.
  • Ensure all classroom processes, procedures and data collection are highly organized and effective with optimal use of instructional time.
  • Motivate, engage, and empower learners to track and monitor his/her learning.
  • Design, develop, and evaluate authentic learning experiences and assessments incorporating contemporary tools and resources to maximize content learning in context and to develop knowledge, skills, and attitudes aligned with 21st Century learning.
  • Collaborate with educators from other grades or subject areas to establish links between disciplines and influence school-wide curriculum and teaching practice.
  • Deliver content that is relevant to students and applicable to the real world including life skills training when applicable.
  • Integrate and align Colorado Academic Standards, instructional objectives, instructional strategies, learning activities, materials, resources and assessments and differentiate lesson planning based on individual student needs.
  • Use data management tools to analyze results and draw inferences from data to identify strengths and opportunities for improvement.
  • Provide quality, accurate, constructive, corrective, specific and timely feedback to students that encourages them to perform at their highest level.
  • Effectively communicate with parents and staff about student's progress and opportunities.
  • Utilize technology and/or other avenues to communicate to stakeholders (website, podcasts, etc.).
  • Establish student, staff and parental rapport that allows for a proactive response to potential problems.
  • Participate in continuing education for professional development to ensure practice consistent with best practice and to meet Colorado Licensure requirements.
  • Use professional literature; evidence based research, and continuing education content to make practice decisions.
  • Use professional Code of Ethics and standards of practice to guide ethical decision-making in practice.
  • Notify the Principal and Director of Student Services of any failure to implement the requirements of assigned students IEP.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Supervision of support personnel involves conducting supervisory duties in accordance with the organization's policies and relevant laws. These responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, participating in interviews, providing training and development opportunities, assigning and directing work, offering performance feedback, and addressing complaints to resolve issues.
  • Prioritize and schedule work tasks independently.
  • Create and implement effective and efficient process management strategies (e.g., procedures, instructional groups, transition materials and supplies).
  • Accurately projects need for budget planning.
  • Maintain accurate records in accordance with professional standards, state guidelines, and school system policy.
  • Review processes for improvement opportunities and make changes as needed to ensure quality of instruction.
