About The Position

The 2026-2027 Special Education Teacher position at Lincoln 5-8 is a full-time role starting August 26, 2026, with new faculty orientation on August 21 & 24. This role reports to the Coordinator of Student Services. The teacher will be responsible for planning and delivering individualized instruction based on Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Curriculum Frameworks. Key responsibilities include consulting with classroom teachers, developing modified materials, supporting students' social-emotional and behavioral development, and facilitating academic and social integration into the general education setting. The position also involves participation in Instructional Support Teams, collecting progress data, performing educational assessments, making instructional recommendations, collaborating on TEAM Evaluation and Section 504 Accommodation Plan meetings, chairing TEAM Meetings, building relationships with students and parents, serving as an IEP Liaison, monitoring student progress, supervising paraprofessionals, guiding social interactions, establishing behavior support plans, writing reports, participating in district curriculum planning, promoting equity and diversity, administering MCAS with accommodations, developing MCAS alternate assessment portfolios, and supporting student transitions. Requirements

  • Valid teaching license with Special Education certification.
  • Experience in developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Knowledge of curriculum frameworks and instructional strategies for students with diverse learning needs.
  • Experience in conducting educational assessments and interpreting results.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with classroom teachers, parents, and other professionals.
  • Skills in supporting students' social-emotional and behavioral development.
  • Experience in supervising paraprofessionals.
  • Familiarity with MCAS administration and alternate assessments.
  • Commitment to promoting equity and diversity.

Responsibilities

  • Plan lessons with respect to Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Curriculum Frameworks.
  • Provide individualized instruction for all assigned students.
  • Consult with classroom teachers regarding materials, curriculum units, classroom accommodations and program modifications.
  • Develop modified materials in conjunction with classroom teachers, as needed to enable curriculum access.
  • Support students with learning adaptive coping skills and strategies to address social-emotional and behavioral challenges.
  • Support students to academically and socially to provide great access within the general education setting.
  • Participate on Instructional Support Teams and grade level teams as assigned by Principals.
  • Collect on-going progress data to support instruction and social, emotional and behavior interventions.
  • Perform educational assessments for TEAM Evaluation to determine student learning profiles, academic strengths and areas of need.
  • Make instructional recommendations when a member of the Evaluation TEAM or assigned as a Section 504 Accommodation Plan Committee member by the Principal.
  • Collaborate with Coordinator for Student Services to ensure that necessary forms and documents for initial TEAM, Review and Reevaluation meetings are complete.
  • Chair TEAM Meetings as assigned to determine special education eligibility and oversee the planning process to formulate appropriate goals, objectives and instructional programs.
  • Build relationships with students and parents, and serve as a resource for home strategies and approaches.
  • Serve as IEP Liaison for assigned students by communicating and coordinating with colleagues, parents and other professionals.
  • Monitor student progress with all TEAM members with regard to IEP goals and objectives.
  • Supervise paraprofessionals regarding their instruction of students on IEPs.
  • Guide students towards positive and enriching social interactions with others.
  • Establish and monitor implementation of behavior support plans as needed.
  • Write Individualized Education Programs, assessment and progress reports, and submit necessary documents to the school’s Student Services office.
  • Participate on district curriculum planning teams.
  • Promote equity and appreciation of diversity.
  • Administer MCAS with accommodations and develop portfolios for MCAS alternate assessments as required by IEPs and Section 504 Accommodations Plans (in collaboration with classroom teachers) as required per Coordinator/Principal.
  • Support and facilitate transitions for students on IEPs between grades and schools.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned by Principal or Coordinator for Student Services.
