About The Position

Merakey is seeking a Special Education Teacher to provide individualized specialized instruction that helps students become happy, confident, and productive members of their communities. The role involves designing and implementing IEPs, coordinating schedules and services, and monitoring student progress. Teachers work with a large team of professionals and receive staff development focused on supporting students with Autism, including training in effective, current strategies. The position is based in Altoona, Pennsylvania, and follows a traditional 10-month school year, with paid summers off. Teacher-to-student ratios do not exceed 1:8 in Autism Spectrum Disorder classrooms or 1:12 in Emotional Support classrooms. Additional hours and compensation are available for Extended School Year (ESY) work. Salary is up to $55,000.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Special Education; or a bachelor’s degree with at least 18 credits in Special Education and 6 credits in Education Theory.
Pennsylvania Special Education certificate, or Pennsylvania Private Academic certification with the ability to attain public certification within a reasonable amount of time after hire.

Responsibilities

Provide specialized instruction through individualized student programs.
Design, supervise, and implement students’ IEP plans.
Create and coordinate student schedules with related services and general education.
Collect and analyze student data and monitor student progress.
Coordinate services effectively while working with a large team of professionals.
Participate in staff development courses focused on working with students with Autism.
Implement effective strategies for working with students with Autism.
