About The Position

The person in this position will work under the supervision of the building principal and the district’s special programs director and is responsible for teaching students. This person will be responsible for providing, designing and adapting instructional programs for the special educational needs of identified students in a variety of settings, as well as case management of student files. This individual must work cooperatively with other members of the staff to provide students with a well-planned, organized instructional program utilizing data and evidence-based practices. This person is also responsible for directing and training Instructional Assistants.

Requirements

  • Experience with meeting the specialized needs of students with a range of mild to moderate disabilities
  • Ability to provide appropriate instruction to students based on diagnosed needs
  • Skills in using data to make instructional decisions
  • Demonstrated behavior management techniques
  • Proficient in developing and implementing effective behavior intervention plans
  • Understand and adhere to special education law requirements
  • Ability to manage a workload to cover testing, placement, teaching, conferencing, and file management
  • Knowledge and experience with Response to Intervention (RtI)
  • Understanding of Common Core State Standards
  • Ability to provide direction and training to instructional assistants who are assigned to assist with student instruction
  • Ability to meet the Junction City School District Standards of Competent Teacher Performance and the Oregon Standards for Professional Educators

Nice To Haves

  • Current Oregon Special Education Teaching License
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a current First Aid/CPR card

Responsibilities

  • Providing, designing and adapting instructional programs for the special educational needs of identified students in a variety of settings
  • Case management of student files
  • Working cooperatively with other members of the staff to provide students with a well-planned, organized instructional program utilizing data and evidence-based practices
  • Directing and training Instructional Assistants
  • Writing, implementing, and following up on IEPs for specific students in need of specialized instruction and facilitate IEP meetings
  • Communicating effectively and working cooperatively and collaboratively with colleagues, support staff, administrators, students, parents, and patrons
  • Conveying to parents and teachers the students’ learning abilities and needs
