Haverhill Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Teacher for Moderate Disabilities at Consentino Middle School for the 2026-2027 School Year. This role involves providing direct services to children in integrated and pullout settings as determined by IEPs, developing modifications for students in regular classrooms, and participating as a member of the evaluation team. The teacher will evaluate referred children, develop reports and IEPs, train Educational Support Personnel, and coordinate team meetings. Collaboration with other personnel and parents is essential. The position requires a strong understanding of subject matter, pedagogy, student developmental levels, and differentiated learning experiences. The teacher will design units of instruction with measurable outcomes and challenging tasks, and well-structured lessons with appropriate engagement strategies. Assessment involves designing and administering various informal and formal methods, analyzing results to adjust practice and implement interventions. The teacher will draw conclusions from assessment data to improve student learning, share findings with colleagues, and provide feedback to students and families. Instruction should maintain high expectations, use motivating practices, and accommodate diverse learning needs. The learning environment should be safe and conducive to academic risk-taking, fostering interpersonal and communication skills. Cultural proficiency is expected, with strategies to promote respect for differences and appropriate responses to conflicts. Expectations include clear communication and enforcement of standards for student work, effort, and behavior, modeling effective effort, and adapting instruction for all students. Family and community engagement, collaboration with students, and communication with families are key components. Reflection on practice and professional growth are also emphasized, along with collaboration with colleagues and contributing to decision-making at the school and department levels. Shared responsibility for reinforcing schoolwide expectations and meeting student needs is expected. Additional responsibilities are as indicated by the Principal, Director of Special Education, and Superintendent.
