About The Position

The Special Education Teacher will be responsible for developing and implementing effective individualized instructional plans in accordance with student IEPs. This role requires a deep understanding of the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and effective assessment strategies to inform daily planning. The teacher will maintain thorough documentation and collaborate with team members and parents to maximize student learning opportunities. A participative classroom management model is expected, fostering collaboration among all stakeholders. The role also involves integrating clinical support services into daily instruction and creating a safe, nurturing environment. Supervision and support for paraprofessionals are key responsibilities, along with contributing to the professional learning community.

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree required.
  • DESE certification in special education required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with children with intensive special needs in creative, sensitive, and thoughtful ways.
  • Thorough working knowledge of assessment strategies.
  • Understanding of the need for thorough and instructive documentation.
  • Ability to share information with other team members and parents.
  • Understanding and desire to use a participative classroom management model.
  • Understanding of the concept of “collaboration” and ability to use it effectively.
  • Knowledge of the part clinical support services play in the overall education of students.
  • Ability to integrate support services into planning and delivery of instruction.
  • Ability to lift, pull or push 40 lbs or more.
  • Ability to move quickly from standing to floor and floor to standing.
  • Ability to work with verbally and/or physically aggressive Students.
  • Must be able to pass a SAFIS fingerprint and CORI check.

  • Master’s degree preferred.
