About The Position
Intermediate District 287 is seeking Middle School Teachers specializing in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Developmental Disabilities (DD) for the 2026-2027 school year. The district serves students from K-12 and transition-age students (18-22) across 12 member districts in the west metro area. Intermediate District 287 provides a variety of services and specialized programs, with a focus on Setting IV special education, to address the diverse needs of its students. The district emphasizes a trauma-informed approach, comprehensive support services with dedicated teams (School Social Workers, Psychologists, Counselors, Behavior Intervention Specialists, Student Safety Coaches), and small class sizes averaging 6-8 students to ensure personalized attention. There is a strong commitment to diversity, with a strategic focus on hiring and retaining racially diverse and racially conscious staff.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Current teaching license in ASD, DD OR a valid license in another subject area & willing to get an Out of Field license.
- Interested in candidates who are diverse, bilingual, or have experience working with diverse populations.
Nice To Haves
- Tier 3 and Tier 4 ASD license (eligible for signing and retention bonus).
Responsibilities
- Teach Middle School students with ASD/DD.
- Provide personalized attention in small classes (average 6-8 students).
- Implement a trauma-informed approach in teaching and student interaction.
- Collaborate with a dedicated support team including School Social Workers, Psychologists, Counselors, Behavior Intervention Specialists, and Student Safety Coaches.
- Contribute to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for students and staff.
