About The Position

The purpose of this position is to ensure student math needs are addressed using best practice and research-based strategies and interventions in both special education and general education settings. This role involves collaborating with general education teachers to accommodate and modify lesson plans, activities, assignments, and tests, and team teaching. The Special Education Teacher will teach Special Education Math Foundation (2 years or more below grade level) and Success (2 years below grade level) classes, or other special education math classes as assigned. They will maintain accurate and complete lesson plans, collaborate with general education teachers and educational assistants to implement student individual behavior plans, and work with a team on the continued implementation and development of programming for math education of 7th-12th grade students. The role also includes organizing and overseeing data collection for academic and/or behavioral goals and objectives in general education classrooms, providing direct instruction on academic goals and objectives, and writing math goals and objectives for students with special education math needs. Progress reports summarizing data collected each quarter will be written, and students’ accommodations and modifications will be ensured, along with academic service minutes being served. The teacher will monitor due process documents for accuracy and compliance, provide input to case managers on students before IEP meetings, and attend IEP meetings. Collaboration with the case manager to determine present levels of performance and write standards-based goals is expected. The teacher will also attend special education and general education department meetings and maintain positive, professional relationships and use appropriate communication with all individuals.

Requirements

  • Possession of a valid Minnesota Teaching License in Special Education
  • Ability to operate a computer and the software necessary to complete the required job tasks

Responsibilities
