Special Education Teacher - Long Term Substitute
About The Position
Helena Public Schools is seeking a Long Term Substitute Special Education Teacher for elementary and high school levels. This role is part of the Student Support Services team and operates during the regular school calendar (187 days). The vision of Helena Public Schools is to foster dynamic educational experiences that prepare all students for life. The successful candidate will work as part of a team serving 7,500 students across 14 campuses. The salary is prorated on $52,275-$70,833 a year, with the final salary determined by education level and applicable experience. A generous benefit package is also offered.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Special Education or related field.
- 3 years of experience working with students with developmental/behavioral needs; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by the District.
- A valid Montana Teaching Certificate with endorsement in Special Education is required.
Responsibilities
- Apply knowledge of special education methodologies to oversee assigned special needs classroom and create individual and group programs for each student to enhance their developmental, intellectual and academic needs.
- Teach students how to recognize and manage their emotions, access help when they need it, and learn problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
- Develop academic pathways for student programs.
- Implement restorative practices when students act out.
- Collaborate with specialists to create holistic intervention and individual education plans.
- Keep individual student records up to date.
- Complete academic assessments and report findings.
