About The Position

KIPP Memphis Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Teacher - Instructional Resource to join their team. This role reports to the Principal and is responsible for delivering effective, high-quality, rigorous instruction to students, fostering a college-preparatory culture, and ensuring students achieve academic success. The teacher will provide specialized instruction based on Individualized Educational Programs (IEPs), assess student progress, and implement various teaching techniques to help students meet their IEP goals. This position involves developing and implementing IEP plans, coordinating special education services, planning curriculum-aligned lessons, creating a conducive learning environment, and maintaining accurate records. The role also requires assisting the administrative team, being available to students and parents, maintaining professional relationships, and engaging in professional development. The position is part of a national network of schools dedicated to serving students from educationally underserved communities.

Requirements

  • Active Tennessee state licensure and certification - endorsement matching subject area & grade band
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of special education and specialty area
  • Knowledge and skills in working with children with behavior and emotional disabilities
  • Commitment to working with educationally underserved students
  • Commitment to the design and development of the school
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Satisfactory criminal records check, pre-hire and annually thereafter, if applicable.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States and provide work authorization.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Provides research-based specialized instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives contained within each student’s Individualized Educational Program (IEP)
  • Assesses student progress and determines the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques
  • Employs various teaching techniques, methods and principles of learning to enable students to meet their IEP goals
  • Develops and implements annual Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans for students to include: present levels of educational performance, special education needs, instructional goals and objectives, and the special education and related services required to meet those goals
  • Schedules team meetings and works cooperatively with child study team members and others in developing instructional goals and strategies
  • Coordinates the delivery of special education services in each student's IEP
  • Plan a program of study and unit/weekly/daily lessons that, aligned with the school’s curriculum and that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and is developmentally appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students
  • Implement, by instruction and action, the region’s philosophy of education, the KIPP Memphis curriculum, and instructional goals and objectives
  • Take necessary and reasonable precautions to assure safety in the classroom and the school for all students
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations
  • Assist the administrative team in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct
  • Make provisions for being available to the students and to the parents for education-related purposes outside of the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms
  • Maintain professional relationships with colleagues
  • Actively engage in all professional development opportunities
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned
