About The Position

LEARN Academy is looking for a Special Education Teacher with a Moderate/Severe Extensive Needs credential to join their team in Montebello, CA. This role involves providing a variety of instructional methods and strategies to meet the unique needs of students with moderate to severe special needs, fostering their intellectual, emotional, physical, and psychological growth. The teacher will implement direct instruction, computer-based instruction, blended learning, hands-on activities, and community-based instruction to fulfill student Individual Education Plans (IEPs). The goal is to boost student confidence and academic success using research-based, motivational educational resources aligned with grade-level outcomes. LEARN Academy, formerly Beach Cities Learning, is an accredited non-public school serving students aged 5 to 22 who have faced challenges in traditional academic settings. It is a national leader in special education, academic intervention, and specialized behavioral services, utilizing a structured program to facilitate functional independence and academic and social success.

Requirements

  • Valid California Special Education Credential (Moderate to Severe Disabilities certification) or enrolled in a Special Education program and can work as a full-time teacher intern (salaried position with benefits).
  • Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred, OR an intern student currently in a special education program.
  • Must be able to assume a variety of postures (stoop, reach, stand, kneel, squat, sit, walk, lift, pull, grasp) for extended periods of time.
  • Must be willing and able to implement safety measures consistent with Safety Care, such as therapeutic holds and transportation procedures utilizing quick body movements in the course of maintaining the safety of students with special needs.
  • Candidates must be presently eligible to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working with students with challenging behaviors preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement student Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and design and provide specially designed instruction (SDI).
  • Administer instructional activities that contribute to a positive climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences.
  • Identify, select, and modify instructional resources to meet the unique needs of students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs.
  • Assist in assessing changing curricular needs and offer plans for improvement.
  • Provide a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.
