About The Position

This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) Special Education Teacher position for the Extended Resource Room (ERR) at Chiawana High School for the 2026-2027 school year. The role involves working with students with a range of disabilities to access the general education curriculum. The candidate must demonstrate a commitment to student success, align with state requirements and the school's guiding principles, vision, and mission, and show passion and enthusiasm for working with all students. Responsibilities include participating in required trainings and professional development, implementing best practices for meaningful learning experiences, working within a system that supports student interventions, and collaborating with relevant staff to enhance student outcomes.

Requirements

  • Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with Special Education endorsement
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree
  • Experience with special education students on the autism spectrum (ASD)
  • Basic knowledge of the Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Willingness to participate in required trainings and professional development

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to supervise and instruct para-educators or willingness to learn
  • Successful experience with a co-teaching model or commitment to participate in training
  • Experience or demonstrated knowledge of implementing multi-tiered interventions for academics, behavior, and social skills
  • CPI trained or willingness to be trained
  • Knowledge of ABA strategies and/or willingness to learn and be trained
  • Willingness to share with grade level partners to meet districts improvement plan
  • Training and/or experience in Guided Language Acquisition Design/SIOP or willing to be trained
  • Previous successful classroom teaching experience
  • Bilingual/Biliterate in English/Spanish
  • Previous experience in working with students with a variety of disabilities
  • Computer knowledge and literacy

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and instruct para-educators or willingness to learn
  • Design and implement standards-based IEPs and Behavior Intervention Plans
  • Data collection for academic, transition, work experience, social and functional behavioral assessments
  • Develop IEP transition plans, and High School and Beyond plans
  • Participate in training for co-teaching model
  • Implement multi-tiered interventions for academics, behavior, and social skills
  • Be CPI trained or willingness to be trained
  • Communicate with students using adaptive and/or assistive technology
  • Utilize data collection to make data-based decisions
  • Share with grade level partners to meet district improvement plan
  • Collaborate and work as defined by the school improvement plan
  • Be trained and/or experienced in Guided Language Acquisition Design/SIOP or willing to be trained
  • Design specially designed instruction for students with a range of disabilities to access general education curriculum
  • Participate in professional learning communities as determined by the building
  • Participate in required trainings and professional development
  • Implement best practices that foster meaningful learning experiences
  • Work within a system that supports student interventions
  • Collaborate with relevant staff members to enhance student outcomes
