About The Position

This position involves assisting special needs students with their personal care needs, including hygiene, toileting, and mobility. The role requires the ability to follow prescribed behavioral and instructional programs, maintain composure in stressful situations, and potentially assist with various health-related tasks. The assistant will work with students who may have multiple challenges in the classroom and school environment. The position is 5 hours a day, but hours and location may change based on student and program needs. The work year is based on student attendance.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Demonstrated understanding of student needs.
Ability and desire to work with special needs students.
Ability to follow through with prescribed behavioral management or instructional programs.
Ability to maintain composure and communication during stressful situations.
May need good physical flexibility such as ability to run, walk, lift and/or respond to student physical needs.
Willingness to be trained in area(s) of student health related awareness and intervention.
Willingness to accept assignment at multiple and potentially differing sites and locations depending on individual student needs as determined by the District.
Ability to work with blood testing, insulin, ports, suctioning, diastat, medication dispensing, etc.
Willingness to be assigned as general help during "down-periods".
Good attendance required.

Responsibilities

Assist student(s) with personal needs, including but not limited to hygiene, diapering, toileting and clothing.
Assist student(s) with multiple challenges in the classroom/school environment.
Follow through with prescribed behavioral management or instructional programs.
Maintain composure and communication during stressful situations.
Potentially assist with running, walking, lifting, and responding to student physical needs.
Be trained in areas of student health-related awareness and intervention.
Accept assignment at multiple and potentially differing sites and locations.
Work with blood testing, insulin, ports, suctioning, diastat, medication dispensing, etc.
Be assigned as general help during "down-periods".
Maintain various records and files.
Parent contact may be required.
Wheelchair assistance may be required.
