About The Position

This position involves assisting special needs students with their personal care needs, including hygiene, toileting, and mobility. The role requires the ability to follow prescribed behavioral and instructional programs, maintain composure in stressful situations, and potentially assist with various health-related interventions. The assistant may also be assigned general help during downtime and will be responsible for record-keeping and parent communication. The position is 5 hours a day, with potential for location and hour changes based on student and program needs. A strong commitment to a child-centered approach, adaptability, patience, and confidentiality is essential.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Demonstrated understanding of student needs.
• Ability and desire to work with special needs students.
• Ability to assist student(s) with multiple challenges in the classroom/school environment.
• Ability to follow through with prescribed behavioral management or instructional programs.
• Ability to maintain composure and communication during stressful situations.
• Good physical flexibility such as ability to run, walk, lift and/or respond to student physical needs.
• Willingness to be trained in area(s) of student health related awareness and intervention.
• Willingness to accept assignment at multiple and potentially differing sites and locations depending on individual student needs as determined by the District.
• Ability to work with blood testing, insulin, ports, suctioning, diastat, medication dispensing, etc.
• Willingness to be assigned as general help during "down-periods".
• Good attendance required.

Responsibilities

• Assist student(s) with personal needs, including hygiene, diapering, toileting, and clothing.
• Assist student(s) with multiple challenges in the classroom/school environment.
• Follow through with prescribed behavioral management or instructional programs.
• Maintain composure and communication during stressful situations.
• Potentially assist with blood testing, insulin, ports, suctioning, diastat, and medication dispensing.
• Be assigned as general help during "down-periods".
• Maintain various records and files.
• Parent contact may be required.
• Wheelchair assistance may be required.
