About The Position

The Mt. Blue Regional School District is seeking a Special Education Teacher for the Adaptive Skills Program at Mt. Blue Middle School for the 2026-2027 school year. The primary goal is to provide an appropriate and quality education for identified students with disabilities, with a focus on special education programming and case management for students with emotional disabilities.

Requirements

  • 2+ years teaching experience, preferably in programs providing Section 28 medical services.
  • Bachelor's Degree in the appropriate field.
  • ME DOE State Licensure (282-conditional considered)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current research, theory, and pedagogy related to students.
  • Displays a philosophy consistent with that of the school district.
  • Bachelors from an accredited college or university in Special Education or related discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
  • 2+ years teaching experience, preferably in billing program

Nice To Haves

  • BHP and SafetyCare Certification a plus
  • Master’s Degree preferred
  • Masters Degree in related area preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily specialized instruction using appropriate curriculum and supplementary materials to meet student's IEPs.
  • Perform all case management responsibilities for students with disabilities on their caseloads, including scheduling IEP meetings, informing the administrative assistant, requesting information from team members, ensuring evaluations are sent to parents, facilitating IEP meetings, taking notes, and developing written notices.
  • Develop and send quarterly progress reports on goals, along with general education report cards.
  • Develop and send all appropriate special education documentation (written notice, IEP, eligibility documentation, consent documentation).
  • Communicate with parents of students on caseloads regarding progress or when requested.
  • Plan a program schedule for students in consultation with general education classroom teachers.
  • Provide training, direction, and supervision to education technicians regarding the educational program.
  • Organize and maintain the classroom structure to maximize instruction.
  • Maintain appropriate classroom management and safety procedures.
  • Monitor student behavior across all school settings and provide consultation and assistance as needed.
  • Administer, score, and summarize results of assessment measures given to students.
  • Establish and maintain a system of evaluating and documenting student progress.
  • Act as a resource by providing informal consultation to classroom teachers and other professionals as requested.
  • Establish and model positive and open relationships with students, school personnel, and parents.
  • Participate in staff development activities and school duties and responsibilities appropriately.
  • Work collaboratively with the specialists providing supervision and oversight for the provision of the Section 28 school based and specialized rehabilitative and community services.
