About The Position

Harbor Point Behavioral Health Center offers intensive residential treatment services within a secure setting. Our programs are designed to meet the needs of youth ages 7- 17 who are experiencing emotional, psychiatric and educational difficulties. In addition to our general psychiatric programs, we also offer specialty programs for youth with more serious challenges. Harbor Point and its programs are fully accredited by The Joint Commission and the Virginia Association of Independent Specialized Educational Facilities. We are licensed by The Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services and the Virginia Department of Education. We are a TRICARE®-approved and certified facility. The Teacher will provide educational services to Middle School age children (Grades 6-8) attending our residential school – according to the facility standards as well as State and Federal regulations. Educational services include assessment, instruction, classroom management, documentation, consultation, IEP/IIP writing, transition planning, program development, curriculum writing and resident supervision.

Knowledge of stages of learning
Knowledge of effective teaching methods
Knowledge of assessment principles and types
Knowledge of Cognitive/Behavioral/Social Learning theories and principles
Knowledge of effective classroom management techniques
Knowledge of methods for observation/data collection
Knowledge of current Special education laws
Ability to present effective lessons aligned with appropriate standards
Ability to organize and plan rigorous and engaging instruction for a multi-grade level middle school classroom
Ability to establish classroom expectations and hold students accountable for meeting them
Ability to manage classroom behavior effectively and in alignment with the Level System
Ability to maintain positive relationships with students and co-workers
Ability to organize and maintain documentation related to job duties
Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Education.
Current Virginia teaching license in Education with Middle School endorsement.

Nice To Haves

At least three years of experience in a classroom situation is preferred.

Responsibilities
