About The Position

Hayward Elementary is seeking a Special Education Support Professional to help educate and prepare students for success. The role supports students’ academic, social, emotional, and behavioral development in special education and regular classrooms, in school settings, and on community outings. This is a 0.875 FTE position, working 35 hours per week for 9 months, Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with a 30-minute unpaid lunch. Starting pay is $18.42 per hour, with a $1,000 sign-on bonus available. Benefits are available for positions of 20 hours per week or more.

Requirements

Have two years of post-high-school education or more, or pass a standardized test approved by the State of South Dakota for designated Education Assistant positions.
Have at least one year of work experience in a position requiring interpersonal interaction skills and knowledge of strategies to support students with social, emotional, and behavioral needs.
Have experience with behavior management.
Meet the stated physical requirements, including the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally.

Responsibilities

Escort students to transportation and other areas of the building.
Provide personal care as needed to students with special daily living needs, such as toileting, feeding, and physical management.
Review and practice teacher-taught skills with students one-to-one and in small groups in special education and/or regular classrooms.
Work with students at school and on community outings.
Prepare instructional materials as directed or selected by the teacher.
Reinforce instructional and behavioral objectives.
Assist with clerical tasks related to student records, including charting, assignments, attendance, and progress-note data.
Help supervise students during recess, lunch, and on the playground.
Maintain the confidentiality of students and their families.
Perform other duties as assigned.
