Special Education Support Professional - 0.875 FTE at Jefferson High School
About The Position
Jefferson High School is hiring a Special Education Support Professional to support students with special education needs. The role provides instructional and behavioral support in special education and regular classrooms, assists students with daily living needs, and helps supervise students at school and during community outings. This is a 0.875 FTE position, working 35 hours per week for 9 months during the 2026–2027 school year. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., with a 30-minute unpaid lunch. Starting pay is $18.42 per hour, with a $1,000 sign-on bonus available. Benefits are available for positions of 20 hours per week or more.
Requirements
- Two years of post-high-school education or higher, or the ability to pass a standardized test approved by the state of South Dakota for designated Education Assistant positions.
- At least one year of work experience in a position requiring interpersonal interaction skills and knowledge of strategies to support students with social, emotional, and behavioral needs.
- Experience with behavior management.
- Ability to meet the stated physical requirements, including occasionally exerting up to 50 pounds of force.
Responsibilities
- Escort students to transportation and other areas of the building.
- Provide personal care as needed to students with special daily living needs, such as toileting, feeding, and physical management.
- Review and practice skills taught by a teacher with students individually and in small groups in special education and/or regular classrooms.
- Work with students at school and on community outings.
- Prepare instructional materials as directed or selected by the teacher.
- Reinforce instructional and behavioral objectives.
- Provide clerical assistance with student records, including charting, assignments, attendance, and data for progress notes.
- Assist with supervision during recess, lunchroom periods, and on the playground.
- Maintain the confidentiality of students and their families.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
