Special Education Substitute Teacher - up to $192 daily
About The Position
Kokua Education is seeking positive role models to serve as special education substitute teachers in Washington, D.C. for the 2026-27 school year. This role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on students' lives by sparking a love for learning and helping them realize their potential. You will have the flexibility to set your own schedule, work up to 5 days a week, and choose assignments that excite you. Kokua Education provides support, professional development, and a pathway to full-time roles in high-performing K-12 schools. The position is paid via W-2, offering weekly paychecks and reimbursement for background check costs after 10 assignments.
Requirements
- At least 1 year working with kids in any setting (classroom, tutoring, coaching, etc.).
- An Associate’s degree or 60+ credit hours.
- Confidence in managing a classroom of students.
- Willingness to step in where needed.
- Pass state & federal background checks.
- Belief that every child has a unique & powerful gift to share with the world.
Nice To Haves
- Experience working in a special education setting.
- Willingness to accept morning-of assignments.
Responsibilities
- Substitute teach in special education classrooms.
- Manage a classroom of students.
- Step in where needed, including lunch/recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and proctoring during testing season.
- Add representation by helping kids learn from your unique experiences.
