This position involves assisting a certified teacher in providing instruction to individual or small groups, typically in programs for exceptional children. The Substitute Paraeducator will monitor and report student progress, reinforce instruction, and maintain records. This role requires participation as a member of an instructional team, developing relationships with parents and team members, and serving as a resource person. Responsibilities also include transporting students, preparing and organizing lessons, administering and scoring tests, assisting with English proficiency assessments, and implementing student IEPs. The role involves monitoring and reporting student behavior, performing clerical duties, preparing instructional materials, and providing support to the teacher in classroom setup and equipment operation. Additionally, the paraeducator will assist students with physical tasks, provide emotional support and guidance, confer with teachers about student needs, contact parents of absent students, and ensure student health and safety. The position also includes directing group activities, assisting with lunchroom and playground supervision, and participating in emergency drills and school events. A willingness to learn to communicate in more than one language at a novice level is also a requirement.
