About The Position

This position is for a Special Education Resource/Intervention Teacher (1.0 FTE) within the Flagstaff Unified School District #1. The role focuses on planning, organizing, and implementing an excellent learning environment to help students reach their educational potential. The district emphasizes meeting diverse student needs, ensuring high achievement, and leveraging diversity as an asset. Collaboration, a growth mindset, and innovation are key expectations. The teacher will work collaboratively with general education teachers to plan and implement instruction for students with disabilities, which may occur in a pull-out resource setting or an inclusion model. Responsibilities include monitoring student progress, writing IEPs, and scheduling/training paraprofessionals. Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) may be required.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree
Valid Arizona Department of Education Elementary K-8 certification required
Valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
Appropriately certified
Candidate must meet & show proof of being appropriately certified, before new hire appointment & beginning job assignment.
Official transcripts & employment verifications required at time of hire for proper salary placement.
All employees are subject to a criminal background check.

Responsibilities

Plan, organize, and implement an excellent learning environment that guides and encourages students to meet their educational potential.
Plan, organize, and implement instruction for students with disabilities, in conjunction with the general education classroom teacher.
Provide instruction in a pull-out resource setting or as an inclusion model in the regular education classroom.
Monitor student progress.
Write IEPs.
Schedule and train paraprofessionals.
Plan instruction from the Arizona State Standards to meet classroom and student-based objectives.
Assess students’ skills to determine proficiency and classroom supports.
State objectives compatible with department/grade/school goals in performance outcomes, including lesson plans; document procedures to achieve outcomes.
Organize and make available the time, space, materials, and equipment needed before instruction.
Plan relevant classroom activities and work to reinforce lessons through active student engagement.
Utilize effective instructional strategies.
Implement procedures involving students with the maximum time on task.
Use effective and innovative techniques to motivate student interest/enthusiasm for subject.
Facilitate retention of learning.
Adjust instruction to facilitate student mastery.
Provide prompt and specific feedback to students on both their work and behavior.
Provide opportunities for all students to apply knowledge or practice skills.
Present subject matter in a clear, precise, coherent, and logical way.
Communicate objectives, purpose, value and relevance of lessons as appropriate.
Communicate appropriate, competent knowledge of subject matter with confidence and accuracy.
Give clear directions and explanations related to lesson content and/or learning activity.
Frequently ask questions of relevance, clarity, and variety.
Frame questions at different cognitive levels/differentiate instruction.

Monitor control of students.

Supervise volunteers and/or assistant aides and paraprofessionals in the classroom, on field trips, in the lunchroom, library, on school buses and in other areas.
