About The Position
Brooke Charter Schools is a network of four public charter schools serving grades K-12. The Special Education Teacher, referred to as a Student Support Coordinator, builds strong relationships with students to foster their academic and personal growth. This role involves collaboration with colleagues to meet student needs through accommodations and intervention plans, participation in IEP and 504 meetings, and ongoing professional development. The teacher will deliver daily support classes in subjects like math, science, life skills, and literacy, and may oversee the drafting and implementation of IEPs and 504 plans, as well as participate in child study team meetings.
Requirements
- Earned a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in special education or hold a special education teaching license.
- Working knowledge of federal and state special education laws.
- Commitment to fostering diversity by cultivating anti-racist practices and removing bias.
- Empowering students with the resources they need to create choice filled lives for themselves and their futures.
- After at least 2 years as a lead teacher, know the importance of building a joyful classroom culture where students are held to high behavioral and academic expectations.
- Professional, warm, and collaborative with students, families, and colleagues.
- Able to start immediately.
Responsibilities
- Build strong relationships with students to push them to be their best selves both academically and personally.
- Collaborate with colleagues to meet the needs of every student by ensuring accommodations are met and developing intervention plans.
- Take part in IEP and 504 meetings.
- Participate in professional development throughout the year.
- Teach daily support classes in math, science, life skills, and/or literacy.
- Oversee the drafting, implementation, and maintenance of IEPs and 504 plans.
- Participate in child study team meetings.
