About The Position

The Special Education Program Manager (Team Chair) is a 1.0 FTE, 10-month position reporting to the Director of Pupil Personnel Services and is part of the Ipswich Educators Association. This role provides leadership and oversight for special education programming and services, ensuring compliance with regulations while promoting effective, collaborative, and inclusive support for students with diverse learning needs. The position requires strong communication and organizational skills, with an emphasis on building positive relationships with families, staff, and community partners. The Team Chair leads the special education team in developing, implementing, and monitoring Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), oversees student identification and evaluation processes, and collaborates with families, staff, and service providers to support student progress. Additionally, the role serves as a resource for staff on special education procedures and policies, aligning program goals with broader objectives, and ensuring accurate documentation and adherence to federal, state, and organizational requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Chair team meetings with a focus on creating individualized, meaningful and appropriate support plans for students.
  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment that prioritizes student well-being and learning.
  • Ensure compliance with special education regulations while maintaining a relationship-first approach to all interactions with families and staff.
  • Cultivate strong, trusting relationships with families and caregivers to ensure transparent communication and shared goals.
  • Support and mentor special education teachers, related service providers, specialists and support staff to foster professional growth.
  • Partner with school staff and administrators to create a positive, team-oriented culture that prioritizes collaboration and student success.
  • Develop and implement individualized services that meet the unique needs of students, reflecting best practices and innovative approaches.
  • Oversee the creation of well-crafted Individualized Educational Programs (IEPs) that are student-focused and goal-oriented.
  • Act as a resource for school-based colleagues, providing coaching and guidance to ensure effective service delivery.
  • Coordinate with the preschool special education team and elementary administrators to design seamless group and individual services for preschool and elementary students.
  • Advocate for necessary programming and staffing resources, balancing fiscal responsibility with the needs of students.
  • Use data and evidence-based practices to inform recommendations and decisions.
