This position is a Para B in Connections. The purpose of this position is to have an individual who can assist teachers in the delivery of instruction to students. The Special Education Paraprofessional will implement student goals and objectives under the direction of the teacher, utilize educational materials properly, and help maintain a pleasant, neat, and well-organized classroom. They will perform scheduled duties promptly, fulfill paperwork responsibilities, and maintain professional competence through in-service educational activities. The role involves assuming responsibility for providing a safe, supportive learning environment, relating well to students of varied proficiency, and providing and promoting opportunities for students to develop a wholesome self-concept. The paraprofessional will guide students toward self-control, provide effective student structure, and accept responsibility for the well-being of each assigned student. They will remain approachable to students and parents as needed and contribute to a positive and effective working relationship between school and home. Additionally, the role requires adhering to academic, ethical, and social standards, speaking and writing clearly, dressing appropriately, accepting constructive criticism, applying suggestions for improvement, and using confidential information for professional purposes only. The paraprofessional must be equitable, sensitive, and responsive to all learners, recognizing that good attendance is necessary for effective learning and participating in ongoing professional development. They will work the same hours and days as teachers in the school and show evidence of helping to promote positive working relationships with school personnel, demonstrating a willingness to share and exchange ideas, skills, techniques, and materials. The role involves working effectively with administrative personnel, accepting and implementing school and district decisions, fulfilling assigned duties and out-of-class responsibilities, and complying with school department procedures and school committee policies.
