About The Position
Pembroke Academy, located in Detroit, MI, is seeking a Special Education Paraprofessional to join their team. Pembroke Academy, established in 2018, serves students from Young5 to 8th grade and is recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School. The position involves supporting students with their individual education plans (IEP) and/or 504-behavior plans, either one-on-one or in small groups, with the goal of educating the whole student academically, morally, and socially. The role also includes implementing specialized curriculum, attending professional development and IEP meetings, and assisting with compliance documentation.
Requirements
- Must meet state requirements for being a Title 1 paraprofessional.
- Ability to defuse situations and prevent escalation.
- Aptitude to understand and navigate technical systems.

- Previous experience supporting individuals with disabilities and/or behavior modifications.
Responsibilities
- Assess student abilities and provide instructional and behavioral assistance for students in accordance with their individual education plan (IEP) and/or their 504-behavior plan as directed by the special education team. Support can be provided 1:1 or in small groups.
- Commit to educating the whole student – academically, morally, and socially.
- Implement result-driven curriculum and instruction specially designed to meet the unique needs of each student resulting from his/her disability such as, resource room, inclusion and/or pullout services.
- Attend professional development, specialized trainings and IEP meetings with special education team and parents as required.
- Assist with the required compliance documentation.
