About The Position

South Canton Scholars Charter Academy, located in Canton, MI, opened in 2011 and serves students Young 5-8. The academy offers strong leadership, world-class professional development, and is a proud recipient of four Eagle Awards. They have a veteran Special Education department with strong leadership. This role involves supporting students with their individual education plans (IEP) and/or behavior plans, either one-on-one or in small groups, with a commitment to educating the whole student. The position requires implementing specialized curriculum and instruction, attending professional development and IEP meetings, and assisting with compliance documentation.

Requirements

  • Must meet state requirements for being a Title 1 paraprofessional.
  • Ability to defuse situations and prevent escalation.
  • Aptitude to understand and navigate technical systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience supporting individuals with disabilities and/or behavior modifications, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assess student abilities and provide instructional and behavioral assistance for students in accordance with their individual education plan (IEP) and/or their 504-behavior plan as directed by the special education team.
  • Support can be provided 1:1 or in small groups.
  • Commit to educating the whole student – academically, morally, and socially.
  • Implement result-driven curriculum and instruction specially designed to meet the unique needs of each student resulting from his/her disability such as, resource room, inclusion and/or pullout services.
  • Attend professional development, specialized trainings and IEP meetings with special education team and parents as required.
  • Assist with the required compliance documentation.
