About The Position

West Woods Upper Elementary (Grades 5-6) is seeking a Special Service Paraprofessional in the SLC (Specialized Learning Center). This position is 6.5 hours per day (not including a 30-minute unpaid lunch) for the school year. The role involves providing personal care/hygiene, assisting with medicine regimens, and offering instructional services and classroom support to staff and students. This includes implementing teacher-prepared lesson plans, supervising activities, preparing instructional materials, and recording student progress. The position requires a cooperative working relationship with teachers.

Requirements

  • Hold an Associate's degree or 2 years of college diploma or its equivalent (i.e. Para Pathways Assessment).
  • Demonstrate the ability to develop and maintain a good rapport with students.
  • Possess a personable relationship with teachers.
  • Ability to carry out directions in both oral and written form.
  • Various life/work experiences that contribute to the candidate's overall preparedness.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Prior experience working with school age children is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care/hygiene (i.e., lifting up to 50 pounds and toileting) and assist with medicine regimen.
  • Provide a variety of instructional services and classroom support to staff and students.
  • Carry out teacher prepared lesson plans and supervise teacher-planned activities.
  • Assist in the preparation of materials for instruction.
  • Record individual progress of students.
  • Exhibit a cooperative working relationship with teachers.
  • Tutoring/one-on-one instruction.
  • Circulate in classroom.
  • Help group instruction.
  • Modify instruction materials.
  • Assist students with technology.
  • Assist students with testing and assessments.
  • Observe and collect data on students.
  • Organize data, graphs, etc.
  • Record student progress (including data).
  • Take classroom notes.
  • Take attendance.
  • Provide personal care/hygiene (i.e., lifting and toileting).
  • Assist with medicine regimen.
  • Monitor hallways and/or study halls.
  • Maintain on-task behavior.
  • Correct minor behavioral problems.
  • Undergo PMT and restraint training.
  • Escort students to other classes.
  • Schedule activities.
  • Copy, staple, sort, etc.
  • Operate media and classroom tools.
  • Maintain equipment.
  • Run errands.
  • Handle records in a confidential manner.
  • Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • May be asked to provide medical or personal care / hygiene which may require lifting up to 50 pounds.
