About The Position

This role functions under the direction of the classroom Teacher and Transition Coordinator, particularly when assigned to job sites. The Special Education Paraprofessional/Job Coach will assist in delivering instruction and implementing Individualized Education Plans, providing necessary accommodations and modifications to ensure students can access educational opportunities. Key responsibilities include supervising students to ensure their safety, fostering student independence in various skills, providing personal care support, collecting data, and implementing behavior support plans. A significant part of the role involves supporting students at community-based vocational training sites to develop essential skills for employment. The position also acts as a liaison between the organization and community job sites, collaborating with employers to support student success. This includes ensuring job expectations are met, accommodations are in place, and identifying new employment opportunities. The role may also involve travel training, transporting students, and providing crisis intervention when necessary. Additional duties may include classroom coverage and clerical tasks.

Requirements

  • High School diploma, Associates or Bachelor degree.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently
  • Required to have prompt, regular attendance
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and work as part of a team
  • Must be able to work independently; follow policies and procedures, implement lesson plans developed by the teacher and record corresponding data
  • Must be able to work effectively with interruptions and reprioritize tasks as unexpected circumstances arise
  • Candidates must be able to remain calm and respond neutrally to redirect students with significantly challenging behavior.
  • Candidates must have mobility required to sufficiently assist students with disabilities with physical needs, personal care, and behavioral challenges.
  • Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling.
  • Must possess the ability to lift, push, pull and/or carry up to 40-50 pounds on an occasional basis and have the ability to move quickly from standing to kneeling and back to standing without using hands to push off the floor.

  • Experience working with students with severe disabilities and Applied Behavior Analysis preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Functions under the direction of the classroom Teacher and Transition Coordinator when assigned to job sites.
  • Assist the teacher in the delivery of instruction and the implementation of Individualized Education Plans.
  • Provide accommodations and modifications to enable students to access educational opportunities
  • Supervise and provide support throughout the school day to ensure the safety of the students in all environments
  • Foster student independence, social skills, language skills and appropriate behavior
  • Provide personal care support such as toileting and feeding
  • Collect accurate data for classroom lessons, community and vocational objectives
  • Implement behavior support plans and collect incidental data throughout the school day
  • Support students at community-based vocational training sites in building executive functioning, social, safety, and pre-vocational skills essential for securing, learning, and maintaining current or future employment.
  • Serve as a liaison between SEEM Prep, students, and community job sites by collaborating with employers to support student success in the workplace.
  • Ensure that job expectations are understood and met, accommodations are in place, and new employment opportunities are identified and developed.
  • Assist students with travel training using public transportation
  • May be asked to transport students to and from the community sites in SEEM Prep vehicles.
  • Provide crisis intervention and physical restraint in situations where there is a risk of serious and imminent harm (SEEM will provide training for de-escalation and physical intervention)
  • Participate in training in relevant areas
  • Carry out other assigned duties, for example provide classroom coverage in another classroom, clerical tasks such as data entry, copying, cutting and laminating, etc. as assigned by the classroom teacher, transition coordinator, program principal or executive director.
