About The Position

Noah Wallace Elementary (Grades K-4) is seeking a Special Service Paraprofessional. This position is 6.5 hours per day (not including a 30-minute unpaid lunch) for the school year. The role involves providing personal care/hygiene, assisting with medicine regimens, and supporting instructional services and classroom activities under the guidance of teachers. Responsibilities include carrying out lesson plans, supervising activities, preparing instructional materials, and recording student progress.

Requirements

  • Hold an Associate's degree or 2 years of college diploma or its equivalent (i.e. Para Pathways Assessment).
  • Demonstrate the ability to develop and maintain a good rapport with students.
  • Possess a personable relationship with teachers.
  • Ability to carry out directions in both oral and written form.
  • Various life/work experiences that contribute to the candidate's overall preparedness.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Prior experience working with school age children is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care/hygiene (i.e., lifting up to 50 pounds and toileting) and assist with medicine regimen.
  • Provide a variety of instructional services and classroom support to staff and students.
  • Carry out teacher-prepared lesson plans and supervise teacher-planned activities.
  • Assist in the preparation of materials for instruction.
  • Record individual progress of students.
  • Exhibit a cooperative working relationship with teachers.
  • Tutoring/one-on-one instruction.
  • Circulate in classroom.
  • Help group instruction.
  • Modify instruction materials.
  • Assist students with technology.
  • Assist students with testing and assessments.
  • Observe and collect data on students.
  • Organize data, graphs, etc.
  • Record student progress (including data).
  • Take classroom notes.
  • Take attendance.
  • Monitor hallways and/or study halls.
  • Maintain on-task behavior.
  • Correct minor behavioral problems.
  • PMT and restraint training.
  • Escort students to other classes.
  • Schedule activities.
  • Copy, staple, sort, etc.
  • Operate media and classroom tools.
  • Maintain equipment.
  • Run errands.
  • Handle records in a confidential manner.
  • Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • May be asked to provide medical or personal care / hygiene which may require lifting up to 50 pounds.
