About The Position

The Learning House is a year-round therapeutic day school in Wheeling, IL, serving middle and high school students with ED/LD/OHI and Autism. We utilize mastery learning and natural/logical consequences, integrating individualized education, vocational support, counseling, and outdoor experiential activities. Our goal is to foster self-worth, mutual respect, healthy decision-making, responsibility, accountability, community, and a successful future for our students. The Associate Teacher will assist in all aspects of the instructional program and behavioral management of students. This role may involve small group instruction under supervision and supporting students' Individualized Education Plans across various domains (classroom, community, vocational, recreational, domestic). A key responsibility includes daily driving of a van route to and from school, with required training provided and paid for by the employer.

Requirements

Meet the state requirements for Paraprofessional or Substitute Teacher Educator License.
Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
Twenty-one years of age.
Valid Driver’s License.
Good driving record.
Willingness to establish and maintain effective relationships with students and staff.
Strong academic abilities.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s Degree.
Experience working with special needs students.
Ability to converse in Spanish.

Responsibilities

Assist in all aspects of the instructional program and behavioral management of students.
May be responsible for small group instruction under the direct or indirect supervision of the teacher or administrator.
Participate in activities necessary to maintain classroom integration and support students’ Individualized Education Plans in all curricular areas, including classroom, community, vocational, recreational, and domestic domains.
Drive a van route to and from school on a daily basis.
Complete required training to drive the van route.
