Special Education Paraeducator (2026-27 SY)
About The Position
This position is for a Special Education Paraeducator to serve Dayton Elementary for the 2026-2027 school year. The role involves supporting and assisting students with disabilities under the guidance of a Special Education Teacher. Responsibilities include assisting with lesson preparation, providing one-on-one and small group instruction, classroom management, student observation and assessment, and communication with parents and staff. The position is 32.5 hours per week on a school year schedule, with a start date in August 2026. Regular attendance is required to ensure consistency for students and support a positive learning environment. Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Must meet one of the following educational requirements: Associate's Degree (official transcripts required prior to start date if offered a position) OR 48 sem./72 quarter credits from an accredited college or university (official transcripts required prior to start date if offered a position) ; OR Passing score of 455 on the ParaPro Assessment; OR Passing score of 220 on the Pearson Paraprofessional Assessment; OR 65% on The Master Teacher, Inc. Paraeducator Online Training Program.
- Successful completion of a criminal history and fingerprint check through the Washington State Patrol and FBI.
- Within three years of employment meet Washington State Core Competencies for paraeducators as defined in WAC 392-172A-02090 (f).

Responsibilities
- Assist the Special Education Teacher, consistent with IEP or IFSP goals, in lesson plan preparation; one-on-one & small group instruction; classroom management; student observation & assessment; communication with parents and staff, in a variety of school settings.
- Supervise students.
- Collect data and report student progress.
- Maintain accurate data collection records.
- Communicate with staff and parents as instructed by the Special Education Teacher.
- Provide positive behavior management support, consistent with the IEP or IFSP.
- Attend to the physical needs of students, including moving and positioning students & assisting with personal hygiene needs.
- Participate in staff meetings, inservice programs, workshops and seminars.
- Participate as a member of the education team.
- May attend parent conferences.
- Maintain regular attendance to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position.
- Other duties as assigned.
