About The Position

Fremont Public Schools is seeking a dedicated Special Education Paraeducator for Howard Elementary. This role involves supporting students in a resource setting, working closely with teachers and therapists to ensure student success. The position is for 7.5 hours per day, working student days, starting in August 2026. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Drivers License
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Understanding of basic reading and math skills
  • Regular, dependable in-person attendance on the job
  • Ability to perform the identified tasks and to possess and utilize the identified knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the identified work activities
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements on their specific job description
  • Visual and auditory acuity for student supervisory functions
  • Skills in written and oral communication
  • Skills in human relations

Nice To Haves

  • Post Secondary training is desired
  • First Aid/CPR certificate desired
  • Working with children/students

Responsibilities

  • Perform classroom support duties under the supervision and guidance of classroom teachers and therapists, including feeding, toileting, transferring, positioning, and other personal care needs when applicable.
  • Assist with physical and occupational therapy for students under the supervision and/or direction of an Occupational Therapist and/or Physical Therapist.
  • Abide by the guidelines established for Paraeducators of the State of Nebraska and the School District.
  • Demonstrate the ability and willingness to perform and fulfill assigned duties as designated by the supervising teacher and/or therapist.
  • Assist the supervising teacher/therapist in the collection and preparation of instructional material and equipment.
  • Assist with the evaluation, monitoring, and supervision of students’ work.
  • Assist students in performing activities initiated by the supervising teacher.
  • Prepare instructional aids, games, and bulletin boards at the discretion of the supervising teacher.
  • Implement behavior management and modification techniques as structured and monitored by the supervising teacher for individual students.
  • Assist with various classroom clerical and daily organizational duties.
  • Attend professional development meetings and workshops for paraeducators.
  • Respect the confidentiality of information about students and communicate progress or concerns about students to parents or staff only with the authorization of the supervising teacher.
  • Exhibit a positive working relationship with students and staff.
  • Follow all rules and regulations relating to school and district policies.
  • Assist in the loading and unloading of students from vehicles as needed and supervise students while being transported by district vehicles as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising teacher, therapist, and/or administrative staff.
