About The Position

The Special Education Lead Teacher will work directly with their school-based IEP Chairperson and the Department of Special Education to gain a deeper understanding of the procedural and legal requirements of the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) process. This role involves serving as an on-site resource and support for colleagues, sharing information on IEP components like writing standards-based IEPs and data collection, and facilitating professional development at their school under the direction of the Special Education Department. The position also aims to develop skills in IEP meeting facilitation and decision-making.

Requirements

At least 3 years of successful teaching experience.
Satisfactory evaluations and demonstrated mastery of the essential skills of teaching.
Working knowledge of the Maryland Online IEP and the components of the IEP process.
Ability to work effectively with adults in a professional learning environment.
Demonstrated ability to relate effectively to students, teachers, staff, central office personnel, parents and community members.
Demonstrated success in accomplishing tasks akin to those responsibilities listed below.
Applicants must currently be employed as a special education teacher or speech-language pathologist due to restrictions of the grant funding.
Applicants may only apply for the position at his/her assigned school.

Responsibilities

Support IEP Chairperson with completion of the IEP process, facilitation of IEP meetings and decision making.
Disseminate information to colleagues regarding the IEP process.
Participate in various professional development activities provided by the Department of Special Education.
Serve as a conduit for sharing information with school teams.
Facilitate school-based professional development under the direction of the Special Education Department.
