About The Position

The Special Education Lead Teacher will work directly with their school-based IEP Chairperson and the Department of Special Education to gain a deeper understanding of the procedural and legal requirements of the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) process. This role involves serving as an on-site resource and support for colleagues, sharing information on IEP components, facilitating professional development, and developing skills in IEP meeting facilitation and decision-making.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of successful teaching experience.
  • Satisfactory evaluations and demonstrated mastery of the essential skills of teaching.
  • Working knowledge of the Maryland Online IEP and the components of the IEP process.
  • Ability to work effectively with adults in a professional learning environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate effectively to students, teachers, staff, central office personnel, parents and community members.
  • Demonstrated success in accomplishing tasks akin to those responsibilities listed below.
  • Applicants must currently be employed as a special education teacher or speech-language pathologist due to restrictions of the grant funding.
  • Applicants may only apply for the position at his/her assigned school.

Responsibilities

  • Support IEP Chairperson with completion of the IEP process, facilitation of IEP meetings and decision making.
  • Disseminate information to colleagues regarding the IEP process.
  • Participate in various professional development activities provided by the Department of Special Education.
  • Serve as a conduit for sharing information with school teams.
  • Facilitate school-based professional development under the direction of the Special Education Department.
  • Thinks, concentrates, and positively interacts with others.
  • Comes to work promptly every day.
  • Works flexible hours as necessary.
  • Works under stress and meets all deadlines.
  • Performs related work as required or assigned by the Principal and Supervisor of Special Education.
