About The Position

The Special Education Instructional Assistant supports students throughout the school day with behavior and academics in the classroom and special education classroom. The assistant helps students refocus, de-escalates negative behavior, recognizes and acknowledges positive behavior, and works to increase students’ independence. The role works cooperatively with the classroom teacher and Special Education staff, and includes other duties as assigned by the supervising teacher. The position is scheduled for 5.5 hours per day, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., as per contract.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Passed ParaPro/Para Educator testing, or 60 college credits.
• Successful background check.
• Patience, flexibility, and a love for children.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and work as part of a team.
• Self-starter who takes direction easily.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Behavior management skills.
• Ability to assist in the classroom and special education classroom.
• Exemplify compassion, respect, responsibility, self-discipline, and honesty.
