About The Position

The Instructional Assistant Special Education assists a certificated teacher in providing instruction and care to individual students or small groups of students with special needs in a regular or self-contained classroom. The role also performs clerical tasks supporting classroom activities and monitors student behavior inside and outside the classroom. The position reports to a designated administrator. This is a full-time position working six hours per day, ten months per year.

Requirements

• High school graduation or equivalent.
• Pass the Lynwood Unified School District Proficiency Assessment, a written examination demonstrating knowledge of and ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics.
• Provide proof of high school graduation or equivalent (GED), or documentation of the highest attained education if an associate degree or above.
• Valid CPR certification from the American Red Cross or an agency authorized by it, required within three months upon offer of employment and maintained throughout employment.
• Valid First Aid certification from the American Red Cross or an agency authorized by it, required within three months upon offer of employment and maintained throughout employment.
• Applicants educated outside the United States must have their foreign diploma, degree, or transcripts evaluated and certified as equivalent to U.S. education.

Nice To Haves

• One year of experience working with children in an organized setting is preferred.
