About The Position

The Instructional Assistant - Special Education assists the teacher in carrying out teaching objectives by working with individual students or small groups to support classroom and individual goals. The position is based at Queen Creek Elementary and is scheduled for 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from 7:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The term is 188 days over nine months. Compensation is according to the applicable QCUSD salary schedule, with benefits provided under QCUSD District policy. This is an hourly, non-exempt position.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Excellent attendance record.
• Have or be willing to obtain First Aid and CPR certifications and keep them current.
• Ability to bend, lift 30 pounds, and stand for long periods.
• Pass a background clearance.
• Obtain an Arizona IVP Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card.

Responsibilities

• Work with individual students or groups to reinforce material or skills introduced by the teacher.
• Guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work assigned by the classroom teacher.
• Check classwork, grade papers, and supervise testing as assigned by the teacher.
• Serve as a source of information and assistance for substitute teachers in the regular teacher’s absence.
• Alert the classroom teacher to problems.
• Maintain ethical conduct and confidentiality consistent with expectations for teachers.
• Participate in required in-service training programs.
• Assist students with lunch, snack, recess, and cleanup routines.
• Meet students at the bus in the morning and take them to the bus in the afternoon.
• Assist students with wash-up and toileting routines, including diaper changing.
• Operate and care for classroom equipment and assistive technology.
• Supervise students in all school settings.
• Refer parent questions or concerns directly and immediately to the classroom teacher.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned to advance district priorities.
