About The Position

The Special Education Facilitator is a district-wide role focused on promoting inclusive practices and mindsets for students with disabilities. This position provides high-level collaboration and support to individuals, teams, and systems to advance equitable, student-centered outcomes across the district. As a vital partner in the district’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), the Facilitator works to remove academic, behavioral, and social-emotional barriers, ensuring all students receive high-quality instruction in the least restrictive environment.

Requirements

  • Valid Iowa teaching license with a Special Education endorsement required.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of successful experience in special education teaching or service delivery.
  • Deep understanding of MTSS, Iowa Specially Designed Framework (SDI), special education law (IDEA), differentiated instruction, classroom management, and assistive technology.
  • Requires frequent standing, walking, and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
  • Must have the ability to safely escort a disruptive student from a setting.
  • Work is performed primarily in school settings, including classrooms and specialized learning environments.
  • The role involves a fast-paced atmosphere with constant contact with students and staff.
  • Daily travel within the district is required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership in the district’s MTSS framework to ensure students with disabilities are successfully integrated into general education environments.
  • Provide expertise and hands-on support in implementing collaborative models and co-teaching techniques to ensure access to core grade-level standards and curriculum.
  • Engage teachers and building systems to enhance special education instructional practices and improve student outcomes.
  • Provide "fading support" to paraprofessionals, empowering students with disabilities to gain independence within general education settings.
  • Support teachers and teams to monitor student progress data and consult on schedules for teachers, paraprofessionals, and students to optimize building-wide support.
  • Support and guide teams in using data through a problem-solving framework to make informed decisions for individuals and groups of students.
  • Collaborate with IEP teams on the development of quality Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and facilitate meetings to ensure equity of voice and effective coordination of service delivery.
  • Design, facilitate, and coordinate professional development for staff and paraprofessionals focused on inclusive strategies, evidence-based interventions, and Iowa’s Specially Designed Instruction (SDI) Framework.
  • Work side-by-side with general and special education teachers to model effective inclusive practices and assist teams in implementing individualized student plans.
  • Assist in ensuring documentation is data-driven and legally sound, adhering to all district, state, and federal confidentiality regulations (IDEA, Section 504, and ADA).
  • Other Duties as Assigned (including but not limited to carrying a roster of students with IEPs)
