About The Position

Inova Kellar Center Day School is seeking a passionate and experienced Special Education Teacher to join our team. We are specifically looking for a teacher to work with students with Low-Functioning Autism (LFA). This full-time position offers a Monday–Friday day shift schedule (7:45 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.), providing a stable and supportive work environment where you can make a meaningful impact every day. Requirements

  • Certification - Basic Life Support and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation within 3 months
  • Licensure - Collegiate Professional License, or Postgraduate professional license or provisional license with the Department of Education, Commonwealth of Virginia, within 6 months
  • One year of professional experience in a school setting.
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field

  • Previous experience with students with level 3 autism spectrum disorder (LFA)

Responsibilities

  • Establishes and maintains a therapeutic/pro-social learning environment.
  • Monitors, reviews, and revises individual education plans (IEP) as needed.
  • Completes progress documentation such as report cards, assessments and IEP progress reports for parents and the local education agency.
  • Participates in staff/committee meetings.
  • Plans and implements developmentally appropriate daily lesson plans and therapeutic teaching strategies consistent with IEP goals, objectives, transition plans and the Virginia Standards of Learning.
  • Provides assessments, planning, treatments, interventions, and evaluations to patients with addictions.
  • Engages students in learning by using a variety of instructional strategies to meet individual learning needs.
