About The Position

The Special Education Coordinator oversees the implementation and compliance of special education services, including IEPs, evaluations, and 504 plans, while ensuring timelines and legal requirements are met. This role supports teachers through coaching, collaboration, and professional development to ensure students with disabilities receive appropriate academic, behavioral, and related services in the least restrictive environment. The coordinator also monitors student progress, facilitates interventions, and helps strengthen inclusive practices and special education programming across the school community.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or higher in Special Education or related field
  • SpEd certified in PA
  • Minimum of five years successful teaching experience or experience working in field of education
  • Excellent communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills
  • Deep knowledge of and experience in curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to deliver quality professional development to teachers
  • Previous coaching or teacher leadership experience

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the case-management of all IEPs within assigned school buildings, including the coordination and facilitation of IEP meetings as necessary and the completion of appropriate paperwork within designated timelines
  • Monitor the referrals of students within assigned school buildings for evaluations and reevaluations for special education services, including referrals from parents and from the Response to Instruction and Intervention (RtII) process, to ensure that appropriate information is being gathered and that timelines are followed
  • Maintain presence at MTSS and SAP meetings as appropriate within assigned school buildings to ensure that students are receiving appropriate interventions and to monitor the referrals of students to the special education evaluation process
  • Provide support to special education teachers and IEP teams in the planning and execution of instructional supports, interventions, and services to students with IEPs
  • Serve as a support for Special Education Teachers, particularly newly-hired Special Education Teachers, and provide individual professional development as needed
  • Provide leadership, direction, and education to building leaders and all building staff regarding LRE and the implementation of special education programming and services
  • Participate in and assist the IEP team in determining the placement of students unable to be educated within a Propel School building
  • Monitor transportation for students who require specialized transportation
  • Monitor related services from contracted service providers and ensure that the services are of high quality, provided in the LRE, and are aligned with students’ IEPs and 504 Service Agreements
  • Coordinate IEP progress reports at the end of each trimester, ensuring that progress reports are provided to families in a timely fashion and that appropriate steps are taken by IEP teams when students do not make progress on IEP goals
  • Assist in the coordination of the 504 Service Agreement process as needed
  • Provide training and technical assistance to special education teachers, regular education teachers, related service providers, school counselors, instructional coaches, building principals, paraprofessionals, and all other staff on all aspects of the special education and 504 service agreement processes
  • Coordinate the Special Education Cyclical Monitoring process, including preparation for the monitoring and implementation of any resulting corrective actions
  • Establish and maintain communication with parents who are newly enrolling students with IEPs in a Propel school in order to gather information about student needs, address questions, and provide information regarding services that are available within a Propel school
  • Assist in the coordination of the kindergarten screening process and ensure that appropriate data is gathered, analyzed, and reported to necessary Propel staff
  • Model Classroom Lessons and effective co-teaching practices
  • Assist in the efforts of improving the understanding of behavioral supports for all students, including collaborating efforts between special education staff, school counselors, culture coaches, and the Propel Partners in Wellness team
  • Assist in the registration, coordination, and administration of the PASA to students who qualify
  • Assist the Extended School Year Coordinator(s) in the dissemination of information regarding ESY, including qualification and data necessary to provide appropriate programming for ESY
  • Assist in the interviewing process for special education teachers and paraprofessionals
  • Collaborate with Propel organizational and building leaders regarding the development of policies and procedures, organizational curricula, and academic and behavioral interventions
  • Develop and organize the provision of training activities to parents and families of students with disabilities
