About The Position

OHDELA (Ohio Distance and Electronic Learning Academy) is seeking a Virtual Special Education Coordinator dedicated to providing a superior education for all students. This role involves overseeing and developing innovative special education services, contributing to the leadership team, ensuring compliance with state laws and best practices for student records, and suggesting/developing new policies and procedures. The coordinator will hold a reduced caseload, maintain compliance with paperwork and service time, and ensure confidentiality. They will work with teaching staff to improve testing results, assist in hiring and training Special Education staff, and act as a point of contact for agencies providing related services. The position requires participation in ongoing training, providing resources for staff, tracking and planning for student accommodations for state and district testing, and collaborating with the State Reporting Coordinator for accurate data capture. The role also involves participating in faculty meetings, open houses, commencement exercises, chaperoning student activities, providing guidance, participating in professional learning communities, resolving school problems, preparing courses of study, and performing student home visits as required. The Special Education Coordinator will serve as the LEA/District Representative for special education meetings and perform other duties as assigned. Travel and face-to-face attendance will be required several times per year for state testing and student events. This position is open to all residents of Ohio.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree minimum
  • Proficient in computer applications, including MS Office Suite, Google applications, e-mail, and internet applications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong ability to gather, analyze, and interpret student data to make sound educational decisions
  • Exhibit flexibility with regard to decision-making, daily challenges, and job duties
  • Has strong sense of integrity

  • Understanding of the community and student demographics
  • Understanding of the RTI process
  • Understand state proficiency testing as well as state teaching standards

Responsibilities

  • Oversight and development of innovative special education services to meet diverse student needs and ensure quality of education and compliance
  • Contribute to the leadership team working as an active member of the Administrative Staff; assist in the development and training of the total school philosophy of special education
  • Ensure maintenance of all special education student records and files in accordance with timelines and guidelines as established by state law and the Department of Education best practices
  • Suggest/develop new policies, procedures or changes essential to special education programs and compliance
  • Hold a reduced caseload of students
  • Maintain compliance with paperwork and service time for the assigned caseload
  • Maintain confidentiality concerning all student information and any professional matters
  • Work with the teaching staff to improve standardized and proficiency testing results
  • Assist in hiring and oversee the training of all Special Education staff
  • Act as point of contact with all agencies providing related services to students, manage contracts and agreements related to services in collaboration with supervisor.
  • Participate in ongoing training to enhance professional skills
  • Provide resources for Special Education staff
  • In collaboration with the Testing Manager, track and plan for provision of all documented student accommodations for state and district testing
  • Act as point of contact for outside agencies and service providers working with students
  • Collaborate with the State Reporting Coordinator to ensure all data for Special Education students is accurately captured and reported
  • Participate in such other activities as directed: faculty meetings (before or after school hours), open houses, commencement exercises, chaperone student activities, provide guidance for students, participate in professional learning communities, study and help resolve school problems, and participate in the preparation of courses of study -- these activities demonstrate valuable support for the school
  • Perform student home visits as required
  • Serve as LEA/District Rep for special education meetings
  • Perform other duties as assigned
