Special Education Coordinator

The Wachusett Regional School District is seeking a Special Education Coordinator committed to enriching the lives of its student population. This is a 12-month position.
Requirements
- Certified in Special Education
- Possess a Master's Degree from an accredited college or university
- Possess at least two years of successful teaching in some field of special education
- Possess at least five years of successful administrative experience in the field of Special Education
- Possess other qualities of academic, professional, and personal experience that the Superintendent may specify
Responsibilities
- Attend all BID Best Interest Determination Meetings
- Identify the LEA by submitting LEA clarifications
- Collect comprehensive school records
- Attend IEP, reevaluation, and other meetings to best support students educationally
- Serve as the programmatic LEA for the district
- Work to enroll students locally or seek appropriate placements based on IEPs
- Continually act as case manager for students and interact with agencies that support students living in the group home
- Coordinate and assist in budget preparation for assigned areas
- Supervise and evaluate staff as assigned
- Coordinate special education evaluation process including school screening and evaluation teams, and preschool screening process
- Participate in out of district placements as directed by the Director
- Screen and arrange outside and independent referral and evaluations, including contracted therapy services
- Consult with school staff and parents on student performance, behavioral, special education and program effectiveness issues
- Conduct home visits, work with parents, mediate parent/school problems, and screen cases for alternative programming
- Collaborates with the Director on assessing the effectiveness of special education procedures, programming as they impact delivery of services and cost effectiveness
- Conduct other duties and responsibilities as directed by the Director of Special Education and Student Services
