About The Position

The Elma School District is seeking a Special Education Behavior Teacher for the Elma Behavior Academy for the 2026-2027 school year. This full-time position involves designing and delivering instruction to students with high needs in autism and behavior. The role requires strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Requirements

A valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with Special Education Endorsement.
WSP/FBI fingerprint background clearance (fee paid by the employee).
Experience in teaching special education in self-contained settings.
Experience in working with students identified for special education needs services in social adaptive skills and positive behavior management.
Ability to plan instructional programs to meet the needs of students with a range of disabilities including sensory impairments, speech and language difficulties, learning difficulties, conditions such as autism, social-emotional and mental health needs, or a combination of these difficulties.
Knowledge and/or experience in grade levels assigned and common core standards.
Knowledge of current trends in curriculum, instruction, and technology.
Knowledge and/or experience with new state assessment requirements.
Ability to plan instructional programs to meet the needs of diverse learners.
Regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
The safety and health of students and others are essential functions of this position.
Up to date on certification for any physical intervention required to ensure student and staff safety.
Strong pedagogical knowledge in content area.

Responsibilities

Design and deliver instruction for students qualifying for the behavior program and class.
Case manage Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students.
Work with grade level teams to align instructional design and delivery.
Design instruction for students in the behavior program to meet their academic, social emotional, and behavior needs.
Work with teachers, administrators, and parents to develop and implement behavior plans for students with challenging behaviors.
Provide individual and small group support to students who are struggling with emotional and behavioral issues.
Collaborate with the Special Education team to support the development and growth of the behavior program.
Provide crisis intervention and support to students who are experiencing emotional or behavioral crises.
Maintain accurate records of student academic and behavioral progress, in addition to behavior interventions implemented.
Provide training and support to teachers and staff on behavior management strategies.
Direct and support any paraprofessional staff assigned to support students in the behavioral classroom.
Develop strong relationships with students’ families while diligently informing parents of expectations, positive news, and/or concerns about their children.
Provide opportunities for parents to be involved in their children’s learning.
Oversee tasks to ensure that each task is organized, prioritized and effectively managed.
Design and deliver math intervention and support.
Review and analyze data for tracking student growth.
Co-Teach Lessons.
Design and run small group interventions.
