About The Position

The Special Education Autism Specialist will coordinate professional development and provide technical assistance to ESC Region 6 Local Education Agencies and ESC colleagues in the area of interventions supports and instructional strategies for neurodivergent learners, age 3 through 21.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in education or a related field
  • Texas Special Education Certification
  • Elementary Grades EC-6 Certification or Core subjects 4-8 (all content areas)
  • Ability to support educators in implementing evidence-based practices for Autism and/or other neurodivergent learners requiring targeted interventions
  • Experience in providing intervention support to teachers across a variety of settings, including general education and special education classrooms
  • Willingness to collaborate with campus and district leadership to strengthen instructional practices and student outcomes
  • Ability to model effective instructional strategies and intervention practices in real classroom settings
  • Experience in developing and delivering high-quality professional development for a variety of audiences, including teachers, administrators, and support staff
  • Ability to provide ongoing feedback, coaching cycles, and follow-up support according to TEA's grant requirements
  • Willingness to collaborate within the ESC Special Education department and other ESC departments to strengthen instructional practices and student outcomes
  • Understanding of special education programs, compliance, and service delivery models

Nice To Haves

  • LSSP, BCBA or more than 5 years in the classroom supporting students with Autism or other neurodivergent learners

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assistance and training to LEAs and charters in the education of students with Autism and other neurodivergence, including curriculum, instruction, methodology and materials.
  • Provide technical assistance in model programs and strategies for with Autism and other neurodivergent learners
  • Attend and Provide training in crisis prevention management, when requested
  • Collaborate within the ESC Special Education department and other ESC departments to strengthen instructional practices and student outcome
  • Fulfill grant activities/responsibilities
  • Perform other duties as assigned
