About The Position

This position involves clerical, instructional, and student-care duties as assigned to support students with autism. The aide will assist in carrying out the instructional program, maintaining student records, preparing and maintaining instructional materials, and supporting students in self-care and therapy programs. The role requires adherence to special education policies, participation in professional growth activities, and providing assistance to students and substitute teachers. Specific duties may include lifting, positioning, and implementing therapy programs, as well as providing personal care as identified in student IEPs. The position also involves working with various equipment and managing challenging student behaviors.

Requirements

  • College hours for Title I campus 48 required or a score of 464 on the ParaPro test
  • College hours 15 or high school diploma or GED (with a passing score of 464 on the ParaPro test) for Non-Title I campus
  • Valid Texas Educational Aide II certificate
  • Ability to work with children with disabilities
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instruction
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Knowledge of general office equipment
  • Additional Qualification for Title I Campus: College hours, 48 minimum or score of 464 on the ParaPro test

Nice To Haves

  • Valid CPI certification preferred (can be obtained after employment)

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to federal, state and local policies and procedures related to special education aides.
  • Participate in planned in-services and professional growth activities.
  • Assist in carrying out the instructional program.
  • Assist in maintaining student records, audit folders and data collection.
  • Assist in preparation, use and maintenance of instructional materials and equipment.
  • Assist with teacher-planned activities, exercises and drills.
  • Assist when needed in helping students in self care activities such as feeding and toileting.
  • Assist in implementing the therapy programs which may require lifting and positioning.
  • Attend professional meetings as required.
  • Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
  • Physically prompt students through instruction which may require lifting and positioning.
  • Other SHARS Duties as assigned.
  • Provide Personal Care as identified in applicable student IEPs.
