About The Position

This role focuses on Safety, Environment, and Health (EHS) within the plant. The Spec EHS will assist in various EHS programs, manage specific initiatives like the recycling program and workers' compensation, and ensure compliance with regulations such as OSHA and ISO 14001. The position involves training, auditing, reporting, and addressing safety and environmental issues as they arise, including off-shift concerns.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree (equivalent experience could be substituted for the degree)
  • Proficient computer skills, especially Word, Excel, and JD Edwards
  • One to three years experience in Safety, Environment and Health, SARA Title III, Title V permitting, Hazardous Waste
  • Good communication skills, verbal and written
  • Understanding of ISO 14001 Guidelines

Responsibilities

  • Assist in conducting safety training for new hires and other safety training including yearly compliance training
  • Assist in ensuring OSHA compliance with applicable programs including lockout tagout, forklift operation, confined space, electrical safety, respirators, blood borne pathogens, personal protective equipment, hazard communication, hearing conservation, etc.
  • Manage recycling program
  • Help facilitate plant emergency action plan including fire evaluation chemical and other foreseeable emergency type situations
  • MSDS management
  • Assist in Hygiene testing
  • Oversee Workers’ Compensation program
  • Creates and conducts safety program that includes safety team creation and management to drive positive safety changes
  • Manage ergonomics including workstation analysis countermeasures
  • Conducting necessary training and audits for 5S
  • Assist in managing the ISO 14001 system for the plant
  • Other duties as assigned by management
  • Ensure that accident reports are being completed and countermeasures implemented as necessary
  • Generate reporting of all activities for management
  • Ensure “Hot Work” system is being followed as necessary
  • Address facilities related insurance issues as they arise
  • Accompany Federal, State and Local Safety, Health and Environmental inspectors when they come onsite
  • Address “off shift” issues regarding safety/security/environmental
