The Seasonal Assistant assists with the supervision and care of children participating in Recreation Center summer programs. Plans and leads age-appropriate activities, promotes a safe and positive environment, monitors participant behavior, and provides excellent customer service to children and families. Supports the daily operations of the program while ensuring compliance with City policies and safety procedures.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years of age and legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must be currently enrolled in high school or possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including weekdays, evenings, and occasional weekends during the summer season.
  • Knowledge of basic child supervision, safety practices, and age-appropriate recreational activities.
  • Knowledge of customer service principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of City policies, procedures, and safety guidelines applicable to recreation programs.
  • Skills in providing exceptional customer service to children, parents, and guardians.
  • Skills in leading and engaging children in recreational games, crafts, and group activities.
  • Skills in managing multiple children and tasks in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a safe and positive atmosphere.
  • Skills in working effectively as part of a team and following directions from supervisors.
  • Ability to supervise children in a safe, caring, and inclusive environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, guardians, coworkers, and supervisors.
  • Ability to encourage positive behavior and resolve conflicts using sound judgment and patience.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to emergencies, accidents, and behavioral issues while following established procedures.
  • Ability to maintain a clean, organized, and safe activity area by setting up, monitoring, and putting away program equipment and supplies.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with children through babysitting, volunteering, camps, daycare, or recreation programs is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and ensure the safety of children during summer recreation programs and activities.
  • Plan and lead age-appropriate games, crafts, sports, and recreational activities that promote learning, teamwork, and fun.
  • Monitor participant behavior, encourage positive interactions, and enforce program rules to maintain a safe and respectful environment.
  • Assist with participant check-in and check-out procedures, attendance tracking, and communication with parents or guardians as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe activity area by setting up, sanitizing, and storing equipment and supplies.
  • Respond appropriately to minor injuries, incidents, and emergencies, following established safety procedures and reporting requirements.
  • Provide excellent customer service by creating a welcoming atmosphere for children and families while supporting the goals of the Recreation Center.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned in support of summer programs and special events.
